Flickr Bicker

Jan 31, 2007

Flickr has pissed a lot of people off with some of it’s latest news:

In our ongoing efforts to Make Flickr BetterTM, we’re introducing two additional limits: the new maximum number of contacts is …….

We love your freedom, but, in this particular case, limiting these things will actually improve the system performance, making pages load faster across the site for everyone and …..

This seems like a terrible move to me. Flickr should upgrade whatever they need to upgrade so that their pages load faster and the site works better for everyone. They may be making Flickr better for them somehow, but definitely not better for their users. The other part that irritates me is when they say, “…efforts to make Flickr better, ….new limits.” I never actually think that someone decreasing my freedom makes anything better. Will Flickr’s flame flicker out when Zooomr zooms on by? I think I will check out Zooomr to see if now is the time to switch.
