I haven’t won many things in my life, but recently I won a $50 gift certificate to Firebox.com for submitting a video of my daughter’s cubes. I was totally excited because I had no idea there was a prize for submitting videos, so I ordered a couple more cubes. I think it’s great that Firebox.com encourages users to upload their content, but there some things they could do to improve participation:
1. Redesign the site so it’s cleaner and easier to navigate
2. Search YouTube (because there are more Cube World videos there) and comment on Firebox product videos, encouraging them to the newly designed site
3. Allow people to create profiles and leave comments on videos posted on Firebox.com
4. Give people embed code for videos on Firebox.com
5. Allow users to tag videos and provide search feature for videos only
6. Send out your coolest product to some of the top bloggers, but don’t insist they blog about it
7. Start a Blog (if you they have one I don’t know how to get to it), Firebox has fun products and I would be interested in learning more about what it’s like to work at or own a toy company. Right now my relationship is with the Cube World Stick Men, not Firebox
Blogging is about showing your True Colors, letting people get a better feel for who you are and what your product is. Creating a more intimate relationship with your customers by putting yourself out in the open.

Google wants to find ways to rank video, so that the most relevant results display first. Also relevancy is key for contextual advertising. While all this sounds obvious, for video relevancy is a largely unsolved problem right now.
When viewers can search by Recent, Viewed, Rated, Discussed, Favorites, Linked, Featured, and Responded, there’s no scarcity of RELEVANCE, and after the Viacom Suit is resolved, there’ll be no scarcity of Contextual Ads.
Hugh MacLeod of Gapingvoid is in the United States. It would be great to meet up with him somewhere, but I’m not really sure where he is going on this trip. I seriously doubt he will end up in Arkansas. Now, if he were to be in San Francisco towards the end of this month we could catch up with him there. I created the mashup above from Where’s Waldo. I will call it, Where’s The Bloggers. Click the picture to get the full size version and start the search for the famous bloggers of the world.
