How to Embed Video to Play on the iPhone
Update: This post was done when the first iPhone came out. It is now possible to just embed a YouTube video on your site and the iPhone will play it, so my advice is do it that way. The instructions below were correct long ago, but Blip.tv has changed and these instructions no longer work.
In this video I describe how to create an embedded video that will play on an iPhone. Below is the text version of the steps:
1. Export video as .mov file
**if your video editing program won’t do this you can use a freeware program named CinemaForge to convert the video to the .mov format
2. Upload the .mov video file to Blip.TV (I do this through TubeMogul.com and send it to YouTube and other sites as well)
3. Go to Blip.TV and navigate to your Dashboard
4. Click the video you’ve uploaded, and then Share
5. Click Show Advanced Options and change the file format to .mov and the player to Inline Player, click update Code & Copy
6. Copy the embed code and Paste it into your blog or website
7. Enjoy the video on your iPhone

Honestly, your solution is to upload to blip.tv? Why not make a .m4v file yourself instead of a .mov? That’s the difference between any old .mov embed and their embed.
Here I was expecting the proper embed code spelled out, so that one did not have to rely on a third party provider. A misleading title as you mean something other than “How to embed”, you mean “how to upload to third party site and use their embed”

Hi Neaner, You are correct that there are other ways to do this. If you would like to contribute to the information on the Internet feel free to make a blog post yourself with your way of doing it.

I do not believe that this works.
Maybe blip.tv has since updated and put this solution out of date, but your instructions here are either very misleading, or no longer relevant.
You should either update your explanation, or take this down, because you are in yahoo’s top ten results for “iphone video embed” and your solution doesn’t work. This is very frustrating and it might make people not like you very much.
I was happy to find this solution, but disappointed when it didn’t work.
There is no apparent “Advanced Options” button on blip.tv that I can find under the “Share” menu. Maybe you can help me find it?

Hi Riis, you are right, these instructions no longer work. Blip.tv has changed since this post was done over a year ago. I would suggest using the YouTube embed code, that now works. I also updated the post so hopefully anyone else can see that these instructions aren’t valid.

Hi Misty,
Thank you for taking the effort to explain how to make this process work. Also, thanks for the update too.
I finally got my video to work on the iphone at http://www.mobicashcow.com/iphone.html but I am struggling on how to embed other common cell phone video formats.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
